Mathilda & Owen | 25th May 2026

It was such a pleasure to be Mathilda and Owen’s Coombe Lodge wedding photographer on a beautiful sunny bank holiday in May. Nestled in the North Somerset countryside, Coombe Lodge is a beautiful wedding venue near Bristol, with breathtaking views over Blagdon Lake, elegant Bath stone architecture, and beautiful gardens that make every wedding feel special.

Mathilda and Owen first met me a few years ago when I was photographing their friends’ wedding at Elmhay Park on the Orchardleigh Estate. They told me they knew they wanted me as their Coombe Lodge wedding photographer after seeing a relaxed, candid photograph I’d captured of Owen during that wedding. They loved my documentary approach and wanted natural, unposed photographs that told the story of their day.

The couple couldn’t have wished for better weather. It was one of the hottest days we’d had in 2026, with glorious sunshine throughout the day. The outdoor ceremony overlooked the stunning Blagdon Lake, while the talented team at Bramble & Wild created beautiful floral arrangements for the ceremony space. As guests began to arrive, Mathilda was getting ready with her bridal party in the bridal suite, while Owen spent the morning with his groomsmen.

Following an emotional outdoor ceremony, everyone gathered on the steps of Coombe Lodge for a group photograph before enjoying drinks, canapés and lawn games in the sunshine. Guests were entertained by Alerion Strings, who later surprised everyone with a brilliant musical quiz during the reception. It was such a fun and unique addition to the day and kept everyone laughing.

One of the reasons I love being a Coombe Lodge wedding photographer is the variety of beautiful locations for portraits. Constructed from distinctive Bath stone with its charming Cotswold stone roof, the venue provides a timeless backdrop, while the gardens and surrounding countryside offer endless opportunities for relaxed, natural couple photographs. Before the wedding breakfast and speeches, the three of us enjoyed a gentle wander around the grounds, making the most of the gorgeous evening light.

The celebrations continued with delicious choux buns instead of a traditional wedding cake before the evening kicked off in unforgettable style—with karaoke for their first song! It perfectly reflected Mathilda and Owen’s fun personalities and set the tone for an incredible evening.

Being Mathilda and Owen’s Coombe Lodge wedding photographer was an absolute joy. It’s easy to see why Coombe Lodge is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in North Somerset, combining stunning scenery with elegant architecture and a relaxed atmosphere. If you’re planning your own wedding at Coombe Lodge and are looking for a natural, documentary-style Coombe Lodge wedding photographer, I’d love to hear all about your plans.
