How to have an Autumnal coloured wedding

How to have an Autumnal coloured wedding

This isn’t going to be a difficult piece to write, Autumn to me feel like the most colourful wedding season. The weather is getting cold and the trees are loosing their leaves. It’s time for the warmer groom’s suits and the more extravagant bridal wear.

In this blog I am going to discuss how you can incorporate the Autumnal colours into your wedding day.

Firstly, deciding your venue is the most important. Does it have plenty of nature, trees that are full of oranges, yellows and reds? Or is it maybe somewhere big enough that you can decorate yourselves with the Autumn colours? In the photographs you can see Josie and Joe’s and Laura and Haydon’s wedding. They both hired a village hall and went for the DIY style wedding decor. You can also see Ben & Hannah’s wedding in the photos from Bath’s Temple of Minerva, a wedding venue so unique in the city centre of Bath. They chose this venue because they used to walk their dog in Victoria Park where the Temple is based. The gardens surrounding were bursting with yellow, orange and red trees with their falling leaves.

Secondly, think carefully about decor. Josie, the bride spent most of her evenings leading up to the wedding crocheting pumpkins. Laura and Haydon were really into reading so they decorated their village hall wedding with Autumnal coloured books, orange drapes and hanging branches.

Wedding flowers are such an easy way to incorporate colour into your day. Have you considered dried flowers? They can be really effective, and you get to keep them after the wedding. They hold yellows, oranges and red so boldly and are easy to make a statement with. With fresh flowers, in order to get the Autumnal wedding colours you could opt for a slightly more secret garden feel. Bringing in some greens and pinks as well.

A very easy way to brighten up the day with the colours is your outfits. What will your groomsmen and bridesmaids be wearing? Maybe you could send them a colour from the Autumnal palette and they can source their outfit in whichever shade they want. This will give you a mix of yellows, oranges and reds. An even better idea, wear a brightly coloured bridal dress. I have photographed two bride’s with orange dresses and one with a pink floral dress. They were absolutely beautiful and so memorable.

Think about using nature, during your couple’s photoshoot throw some leaves in the air, have a play fight with leaves. Go on a refreshing walk through the woods and have a little dance under the trees.

I hope this blog has been helpful to you and has given you a better idea of how to have an Autumnal coloured wedding. If you like my photographs and would like to chat about your wedding photography then please fill out the form below and we can have a chat!
