How to include all your family at your wedding

How to include all your family at your wedding

One of the hardest parts, from day one when planning your wedding is how to include everyone. Sound familiar to you? You’ve started wedding planning and you and your fiancé have made a huge guest list and tried to figure out how to not invite Auntie Sheryl without upsetting your Mum. It’s one of the most stressful aspects of wedding planning. I am going to talk to you and give you some ideas in terms of photography on how to include all your family at your wedding.

Rule number one, don’t let anyone take over! It’s your day, you have to do it your way. Just because your Mum sees Auntie Sheryl every six months, and you haven’t since 2015 it does not mean you have to invite her. A wedding day is an incredibly personal experience, do it your way and have all the family you want at your wedding.

Prioritise immediate family; parents, siblings, grandparents, nieces and nephews and let your photographer know who they are. By doing this, your photographer can focus on getting plenty of candid and natural portraits of the special people in your life.

Family group shots, probably the most stressful part of your day, and mine as your wedding photographer. I recommend having one big group photograph of everyone after the ceremony. That way everyone will be in at least one photo, people will still have their wedding attire on, groomsmen won’t have taken off their jackets and bridesmaids will still have their lipstick on.

Limit your group shots to roughly ten to fifteen because you will be fed up of smiling and desperate to just have a drink. Create a list of who you want, and appoint someone to help your wedding photographer gather family members and friends.

An example of the perfect amount of group photos:

Couple + partner 1’s parents

Couple + partner 2’s parents

Couple + partner 1’s parents & siblings

Couple + partner 2’s parents & siblings

Couple + Bridesmaids & Groomsmen

Then separately on both sides

Couple + partner 1’s Grandparents

Couple + partner 2’s Grandparents

Couple + partner 1’s wider family

Couple + partner 2’s wider family

All family

All friends

Hope this helps! Please drop me an enquiry using the form bellow if you want to discuss your wedding photography, I would love to hear from you!
